҉Sun Temple (Vivsvaan Mandir)

The sun temple is located at Morar, Gwalior. This is newly built temple which dedicated to the God Sun. This temple is very similar to famous sun temple of Konark, Orissa. This temple made by Ghanshyam das Birla in 1986 that by this temple also known as Birla Mandir, this temple is an excellent example of architecture.

 This temple is in serene ambience and well maintained garden which is very attractive. Its very peaceful place, if u want to go to sun temple try to make plan in early in the morning because its looks awesome at dawn

҉Tighra Dam

In Gwalior Tighra dam is also beautiful spot which is away from main city near around 23-24 km and can say this is an ideal picnic spot. This dam creates a freshwater resevior on the Sank River.

                    This place is ideal for weekend getaways. You ought to have a quick trip to Tighar Dam, If you are looking forward to revel the glory of nature. You can also soak in the sun and your hands at fishing

҉Saas Bahu Temple

There is a line in bible that is “your body is a temple of Holy Spirit’, but when you come across the saas bahu temple, you would feel that Holy Spirit also resides outside your body. This beautiful temple created for the sake of worship in amidst the din and bustle of daily life. This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu by the king Mahipala.

    This temple early name is Sahastrabahu which is another name of loud Vishnu but gradually the name changed and now we known this temple as saas bahu temple

          King Mahipala wished for the success of his Kingdom and the overall prosperity. This being ranted by The Lord, a temple was constructed to commemorate Lord Vishnu. So, the name Sahastrabahu was given to this temple which later in course of time changed into Sas Bahu Temple. The construction of this temple was completed in the year 1092 AD by the king Mahipala

       At the Gate of the Sas Bahu Temple in Gwalior there is a caption in Sanskrit. The doorway gives the view of the Indian Trinity, Lord Brahma, the creator, Lord Vishnu the Preserver and Lord Shiva or the Destroyer.

҉Gujari mahal

In Gwalior the best and beautiful monument is  Gujari Mahal. Its situated in the Gwalior fort area . The fort is situated on the hill and Gujari Mahal situated at plain. There are two main entrances for the fort one from the North side and another from South side Gujari Mahal situated at south side. The Gwalior fort encloses six mahals, three temple and one numerous water tank. As I told earlier fort seem many up and down and has changed many hands. Initially by the Tomar then it’s passed to the Mughal then the Marathas then the British and at last the Scindia. This Gujari Mahal made by Raja Man Singh Tomar for his very favourite queen Mrignaynai in the 15^th century. History behind it is that the Raja Mansingh succeeded in winning over Mrignaynai, then she demanded a separate place for her where constant water supply from river Ria. Queen Mrignayni was gujar by cast so that king given her Mahal name gujari mahal.

     The Gujari Mahal is archaeological museum that have a large collection of Hindi and Jain sculptures. The statue of Salbhanjika, a marvelous piece in miniature is in the custody of the museum’s curator and can be seen on request.

                                  Here I want to mention a of the school who have their very unique  identification its scindia school The Scindia School made by late Maharaja Madho Rao Scindia in 1897, that time this school name is Sadar School that means exclusively for sons of Indian princes and nobles. In 1933 this Sardar School name replace by Scindia School , presently headed by Jyotiraditya Scindia,  and Scindia family . in earlier it located in the city of Gwalior but around turn of the century it was shifted to the Gwalior fort. And that city school Scindia school was ranked as 2nd best public school in India.(Rankings 2008)  later on in 1956 late Rajmata of Gwalior Shrimant Vijayaraje Scindia  founded Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya  which premier institution in Gwalior where young girls; here I’m proudly say Gwalior is much enough in education field…..

Gwalior : To Reach And Best Time To Visit

Gwalior airport is near around 8 -9 km away from main city. And now a day Gwalior airport connected all the major cities in India by direct or via flights

Gwalior railway station is connecting to the Delhi- Mumbai (central railway) and Delhi-Chennai(Southern railway) mostly all major trains stoppage But if you will come from Delhi side so Taj Express n Shatabdi Express the best train to come to Gwalior


                Well Gwalior is as well connected by good road line to all place in Madhya Pradesh as well other surrounding place in Madhya Pradesh Gwalior is properly link with Shivpuri (around 112-115 km ), Datia(near around 72-74 km), khuajraho (270-275 km), Chanderi (235-239km), Ujjain (450-455 km) ,Indore(480-486km), Bhopal(420-423km) ,Jabalpur (487-490km) and other then Madhya Pradesh  Agra(114-118km), Delhi(around 300 km), Jaipur (345-350km)  Jhasi (100-105km)

Best time to go Gwalior

If you will go to visit to Gwalior then end of October to early March is the best time to visit Gwalior. In December month the mostly last week to early first week n 2-3 days of 2^nd week of January coldest days of the whole year try to avoided summers months because its get extreme hot and humidity in summer months

Brief History about Gwalior

 Gwalior is the place of emperors the Tomar’s in the 8th century then it passed on to the Mughal’s, then the Marathas (Scandia’s ) and the Britishen

Gwalior is also famous because of greatest  singer  musician “Mian Tansen” and “Beju Bawra” are also followed by Gwalior Gharana and Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan  one of the great sarod wadak belongs to Gwalior Gharana

History behind the name Gwalior

        Now question come’s in mind is that why Gwalior known as Gwalior.  As my per knowledge and according to   local tradition there is a famous prince of Kuchhwaha in 5th century, named Suraj Sen  once he went in jungle and he lost his way. And on a secluded hill he met an old man the saint Gwalipa. The prince asking the saint for some drinking water then he was led to a pond the waters not only quenched his thirst but cured him of leprosy. The prince wished to offer the sage something in return, and the saint asked him to build a wall on the hill to protect the other sages from wild animals. Suraj Sen later built a palace inside the fort, which had been named "Gwalior" after the sage eventually the city which grew around the fort took the same name. So this is the story behind the name of Gwalior

Today I get an opportunity to write something about Gwalior. Gwalior is a place where I spent 5 beautiful year of my life. I’m glad to share my experience and some information about Gwalior city which will help you to know the city before visiting it.

I belong to a place nearby to Gwalior and came Gwalior for my degree college study .it’s the first day which I can’t forgot when I entered into my college campus. Scared and excited both about the new changes coming to my life.

Let discuss something about city history about which I was also not aware even after staying 2-3 years in the city.  Gwalior is near around 114 km far from Agra the place of seventh wonder of the world TajMahal.
